Clean Your Makeup Brushes!

Today I thought I’d show you all how fast & simple it is to clean your makeup brushes! Following on from my skincare post I’d say its a very relevant topic.

Why is it important?

Well cleaning your makeup brushes rids them of excess makeup, facial oils, dead skin & bacteria that can be easily spread!

How often should I clean my makeup brushes?

You should wash your brushes at least once a month, but if you forget don’t panic, life is busy no one is judging you! As soon as you remember its overdue make some time for it.

Should I clean my eyeshadow/brow brushes too?

Yes you should. Any brush that touches your face needs to be cleaned regularly. Brows & eye lids both have oils and both contribute to spreading bacteria to the rest of your face.

How do I clean & dry my brushes?

I’ll now take you through a few very easy steps, showing you how to clean & maintain your makeup brushes!

What you’ll need –

  • A towel
  • Shampoo or soap
  • warm water

Step 1 – Taking one brush at a time run under warm water, You’ll want to get right into the bristles!

Step 2 – Take your shampoo or soap (I’m using a body wash soap, it smells awesome!), lather the soap on the brush bristles.

Step 3 – Swirl the brush over the palm of your hand to ensure you are deep cleaning the bristles (you’ll start to notice any excess makeup is being stripped off the brush at this stage).

Step 4 – Rinse under the warm water being cautious to remove all traces of soap until water runs clear. (If the water isn’t running clear yet repeat steps 2-4 again!)

Step 5 – Squeeze the bristles from root to tip in one long firm downwards motion to clear the brush of any excess water & place on a flat surface on top of your drying towel.

You did it!! Now you just wait for your brushes to dry & they are as good as new!
