You might remember when I reviewed the NYX wonder stick. Its a great product but for a while now I’ve been wondering if I’d get on better with a powered contour palette rather than a cream one. Don’t get me wrong, I love cream versions, they’re blendable, they last long and they give you a really defined look. However, I’ve always been a bronzer kinda girl. I get on really well with powdered products even more so than creamed ones. I was never really into those cream blushers or eyeshadows as a kid, it felt alien to smother my face in a creamy product after applying my foundation, and well for me, powder just feels so right! So I stopped using the wonder stick and changed back to contouring using just my bronzer. But bronzers only do so much before making it look like you’ve tangoed the crap out of your face!
On my hunt for the worlds best contour palette (or something close enough), I found myself returning to beauty bay sifting through the pages of contour products on offer. When I spotted the Morphe 9c palette I added it to my basket immediately, honestly I didn’t even bother looking at anything else afterwards! I have such a great love of Morphe, the products are beautifully pigmented and a little always goes a very long way so I knew I was in for a win! Plus for a higher end makeup supplier Morphe products aren’t as astronomical as some other popular brands. £23 lighter and I’ve never been happier to spend that on a single beauty related purchase.
The palette includes 9 different shades – Four light powders, one highlight and four darker contouring shades. I love that there is such variation in this palette making it suitable for a whole range of skin tones. I also love that they included a highlight into the palette alongside the four lighter powders – you now have everything you need for a successful contour.
I admit I was a little terrified of the darker contour shades to begin with as I’d never used anything quite so daring before but as soon as the brush met my cheek and a chiselled cheek bone appeared I was sold! Never again will I use only a bronzer to contour with again. I use the lightest of the brown shades, and sometimes if I feel like I want a really defined look, I’ll continue with a shade darker. I like that I have the option with this palette to go really dramatic and and bold. The problem with universal shades are that you have only the one option and one shade available, they’re limiting!
The Morphe 9c palette will significantly change your makeup game, its also a great place to start for beginners or those who are less confident with the whole contouring thing too!
On application I find that the powders blend in really well and with them being so pigmented you really don’t need to apply a lot of product onto your brush, I’d recommend using less than you think you’ll need and gradually build it up. The 9c Morphe shades sit beautifully on top of your foundation & give a long lasting, defined finish. I’m forever being complimented on my makeup & I’m putting it down to this little gem!!
