How To Achieve A Pinterest Worthy Home

In the modern world of the internet its obvious to see we are all influenced in some way or another by what we see, we envy how others are living and adore how inspiring and beautiful everyone elses lives look! Pinterest is the place where you’ll find ultimate inspiration and its totally up there in the list of must have apps! Pinterest is definitely one of the only apps that gives me all the feels!! Not sure what to cook for dinner? – Pinterest. Not sure how to do your makeup for a night out? – Pinterest. Want to create a home Interior lust list? – Pinterest! Pinterest is your answer for just about anything, its certainly helped me on my journey to redecorate and transform my home from a hobbits cave to a palace!

A lot can be said for home interior when I grew up in the 90’s. The use of bold, unsightly wall paint on every single surrounding wall. Wall stencils that made you feel like you were doing the work of Michelangelo but left a lot to be desired. Boyzone, Nsync and Peter Andre posters plastered all over your bedroom walls. Loud patterned rugs and carpets that were cool at the time but so overbearing and then theres the TONS of Ornanments that grew dust in every crevice you could possibly find!! Yeah, Interiors back then are what I run away from now #sorrynotsorry! What you see nowadays of lush home interiors are clean cut walls, classy furnishings and perfectly placed belongings, Pinterest can give you all the Interior envy you need and more! So instead of pinning post after post of someone else’s home here are some helpful tips that will help you on your way to creating your very own pin worthy interiors!

Clean cut walls

I know white walls aren’t for everyone but they really open up the space in a room! Having white walls also means you’ll never have to struggle finding furniture that matches your current colour scheme either! A lot of people say that white is impractical because it can get scuffed quite quickly, the great thing about white walls though are that they are easy to wipe down and if you need to touch it up a little they’re really straight forward. If white walls are a bit too plain for you, you might consider having a feature wall (this is usually one wall thats painted in a different colour or wallpapered), I tend to go for shades of grey because again it tends to go with everything but the choice is yours, just don’t go crazy painting every single wall in one bright, garish colour!

House plants

You’ve probably noticed whilst scanning Pinterest that a lot of the ‘cool’ rooms have a plant sitting in them somewhere, house plants are a must!! They give the room colour and also make the room feel a lot more homely. Plants can sit in place of ornaments, books, on dressing tables, on the floor and they’re able to give your home a more modern, clean look. Bringing nature inside the house also has a real calming, meditating effect on us which is great for a relaxing environment. Invest in a few house plants and you can’t go wrong – unless you start a mini green house in your living room then you might want to rethink how many you actually have!

Statement Pieces

Every room needs a focal point, this is very often what people are drawn to straight away in a room and whatever it is it should most definitely shout character! You can have more than one statement piece in a room but limit it to around 3 items otherwise it can end up looking and feeling a bit too busy around you! It can be anything from a vintage piece of furniture to a bright bold piece of wall art but your statement piece should definitely say something about you, this is where your personality really comes into play!

Can the clutter!!

Clutter isn’t something you’ll find on Pinterest!! Everything in a Pin worthy room is precisely placed but still looks lived in, it doesn’t have to be a show home but it certainly shouldn’t be full of clutter either! Book shelves should be tidy, don’t over load them with things that shouldn’t be there. Invest in storage furniture with doors and draws so that you can hide away those piles of dvds and magazines. You could even call on your local carpenter to give you an idea of what built in storage solutions are available to you. Smart storage options will leave your house looking tidy and spacious without you having to worry about all the clutter!!

Accessories

Accessories are the little things that transform the home, these are little pieces that people often look over but without them a home isn’t really a home!! An area rug is one of the most important home accessories you’ll need, they can make any room feel 100x more homely and they can also be used to introduce more colour and texture into a room too! Other accessories such as sofa cushions, alternative seating, textured wall hangings and wall art all add a little flair to an otherwise plain looking room making your home now 10x more Pinterest worthy than before!

Add texture

Experimenting with different textures will make the room a lot more interesting! Be wise with your choice of materials and go for a range of different textures, these are best explored via cushions, blankets, rugs and wall hangings. Introducing texture will give your room more dimension, it’ll become a whole lot more welcoming and it’ll surely be an environment you’re proud to host a social in! Textures will totally transform the overall design of your room.

Making your home a little more Pinterest worthy isn’t as hard as it might seem, with these pointers you’ll soon have a home that will become interior envy to all the dedicated Pinners out there!

When we brought our home I was determined to have colour on the walls! At times, I now I wish I’d gone a bit more Pinterest-esque, but I love it all the same! xx

My mother’s decorated the house all vintage, so it’s not all modern like most Pinterest-worthy houses. When I move out, though, I plan for mine to be1

I use to really dig the vintage look but now I prefer just a few vintage pieces that make a statement and the rest modern looking I’m so pleased with the house now!

I would rather have white walls that color. I agree that anything can be paired with white. I hate clutter as well and I never see clutter on Pinterest. My home isn’t exactly Pinterest worthy, but I do have a good start on getting it there. It is crazy how far we have come in decorating homes. I remember the 90’s style. Haha.

Hahaha 90’s home styling was something I give it that!! I love white walls and our house definitely looks better for it!

Totally agree about eliminating the clutter. We live in a small Manhattan apartment and space is limited. Eliminating clutter is the best way to make your small space feel bigger.

    • francescaferrarinelson@yahoo.co.uk April 22, 2017 / 10:05 pm

Exactly!!! We use to live in a tiny flat with barely any space and all of our belongings just cluttered the place!!
