I like to be honest, being a mum of two and living from only the husbands income doesn’t leave much room for any of us to have a sneaky treat. Its not as if I need to treat myself but in the hustle and bustle of life its really nice once in a while to have that thing you’ve been admiring for a while! Sadly though I always end up feeling a little deflated and guilty a week or so after because well, I just spent £40 on one single item and it hardly seems worth it! Who doesn’t want to get more for their money!? I remember the good old days when a Freddo bar was 5 or 10p they’re now at a whopping 30p its just goes to show that the cost of living is so expensive now (and that my mind will always be on chocolate). Even the poundshop seem to be selling products for over a bloody pound, shocking!! Anyway I’ve digressed – treating myself isn’t exactly easy when the cost of living can be somewhat extortionate! Thats why I was so pleased to have found #girlcrush!!
#Girlcrush are a monthly subscription box service with a bit of a difference. The idea of the box is to champion female entrepreneurs of all different niches/products, celebrating all things female made from those who are both big in the game to those that are undiscovered! Each box differs in terms of products, they can range in anything from beauty to clothing to jewellery and even lifestyle pieces giving you a real variety every single month! In each box you’re guaranteed around 6-8 items worth up to a massive £150!!! Another aspect that makes #girlcrush stand out from all the other sub boxes is that 10% of their box sales each month are donated to a womens charity!! Not only that but #girlcrush cares about your opinion so you’re able to vote for the charity of your choice via their monthly newsletter!
If that hasn’t made you want to whack your purse out yet, take a look at what I got in my very first, April box!
Fitvia – Fittea Bamboo Pure Night Detox Kit
When I first set eyes on the amazing wooden flask I was sold!! Fittea is a detoxing brand that supports healthier living. The teas ingredients supposedly promote fat burning, support your metabolism, reduces bloating and contain lots of vitamins and antioxidants. All ingredients are 100% natural and organic (which of course I’m all for)! I’ve never been one thats into weight loss teas, I’d make myself green tea if I was that bothered but what I like about this brand is that its more of a detox thing, helping your body to feel healthy and stay healthy! Fittea isn’t a meal replacement. I love that the tea comes in natural tea leaf form, the flask has been designed to separate the tea leaves from the water, I really dig this! The bamboo pure night detox kit retails at €52.90 which is roughly £45!
Olive + Piper – Ivy Crystal Choker
I could not believe my eyes when I took this baby out of its little draw string bag!! I was so amazed that this was included in my box. I’m a massive fan of chokers with a choker collection taking up the majority of room in my jewellery box, so you can imagine the excitement that spiralled through me on opening this beautiful piece! Olive + Piper are an online fashion and jewellery boutique and I couldn’t be happier that I’ve now discovered them!! This has to be a big fave of mine from this months box! This retails at $48 USD which is around £37!
Freshie & Zero – Minimal Half Moon Hoops
I have a real appreciation for dainty, minimalist jewellery. When I opened my box and found these I was really excited! I don’t usually chose this kind of jewellery for myself, earring are so important to me but I never wear a dangly or hooped earring, studs just do me so well. When I tried on the Half moon hoops I was so pleasantly surprised! I absolutely love these and I love that they don’t come with any fiddly butterfly caps! They are simple in design and also suitable for those with sensitive skin, they are so versitile and can suit a vast variety of ages!! These Minimal Half Moon Hoops (in gold) retail at $46 USD which is around £35!
Popband – Tye Dye Monochrome Hair Ties
Most of you would have heard of popband. They’re a fashion savvy brand that make hair ties that double up as bracelets. The idea is that when letting your hair down you can simply place the popband on your wrist and it’ll still look nice against your bracelets and wristbands! I love pop bands, I’ve had a few in the past and they feel just lovely to tie your hair with so I was really pleased to see a pack included in my #girlcrush box. The tye dye collection retails at £8.
Pro blo – Curl me bundle
Oh my goodness!!! How bloody excited was I when I opened up this badboy?! Pro blo are a company that has a passion in developing products that allow you to recreate the latest trends in hair. The idea of the curl me bundle is to be able to give yourself that professional looking blow dry from the comfort of your home without any hassle!! I myself love a good blow dry and thats why I was ecstatic to see these in my bag, I find it very difficult to actually blow dry my hair at home with ease so I often just don’t bother, with the pro blo kit I’m able to give my hair the loving I really want! In the kit you get a detachable handle, brush barrels and large barrel clips. You simply curl the barrels into the hair, use the barrel clips to secure them to your head, detach the handle and move onto the next section of hair! The benefit is that when they are all neatly secured to your head you can heat each one evenly with your hairdryer so that on removing the barrels your have the most awesome home blow dry!!! What a absolute win! I think this is my favourite item of the entire box! The curl me bundle retails at £35 but there are a number of bundles you could chose from!
Erin Condren – Compliment Cards
Don’t you just love anything that oozes positivity? I know I do! These little compliment cards were a very warm addition to my subscription box, they’re a simple way to make someone elses day or to just motivate yourself with a little bit of positive, self esteem boosting kindness and I just love that!! The cards read phrases like ‘be brave’ & ‘you’re one of a kind’ I love these and think I’ll be using them to brighten up other peoples days because why the heck not?! These cute little cards retail at $5 a pack which is almost £4!
Jane Keeling – Earrings
I know I’m a lucky girl, I couldn’t believe it when I unveiled even more jewellery in my box! This design give me serious art deco vibes and I’m loving the uniqueness of them. I wouldn’t usually choose something like this for myself so they’re definitely out of my comfort zone but I’m willing to give them a shot! I couldn’t find out much about the brand online, google wasn’t giving me anything to go by so unfortunately I have no idea of their backstory or how much they even retail at – Sorry!
I’m super impressed with everything I received in my box last month, this for me is a sub box worth way more than the £20 I pay! Amazing quality items and amazing on price, its fab for not leaving you practically bankrupt each month! Can you believe you get all of that for just £20?! I can’t wait for next months box now!
Make sure to visit hashtaggirlcrush.com and get yours!!
*UPDATE – Sadly since writing this post Girlcrush have changed their subscription boxes! They no longer offer subscription boxes, you can now make your own box for a higher price that contains less items and all items are of lesser value and quality. I won’t be buying their boxes any longer.
