Elf On The Shelf – The Final Hoorah!

Day Fifteen – Alfie Takes Up Gymnastics

At this point we are starting to become struck for ideas, and unlike the week prior I haven’t planned this last week as much as I’d have liked so this night was a really off the cuff, think on your feet scenario. I found some old wooden skewers in the baking cupboard so thought we’d put them to good use! We connected them onto string to create what resembled trapeze bars and hung superhero Falcon and Alfie from each of them making it look as if they were doing some cool tricks!

What the kids believe – Alfie and Falcon were playing a cool but dangerous game on the swings and need help getting down!! The kids couldn’t stop laughing whilst becoming increasingly worried for Alfie’s safety!

Day Sixteen – Art Class

Although keeping up with Elf on the shelf has been really fun and exciting for us all, some nights have been difficult to remember BUT we always do, its just that some nights our ideas aren’t always great and we sit there for an hour or so wondering what on earth to do with that damn Elf!! This was one of those nights… However it turned out to be a pretty good one!! We got Alife to pose for a life drawing class whilst some of his new found friends drew him!

What the kids believe – Alfie’s friends drew him and the pictures are really cool! My eldest thought this was the coolest thing in the world, he could hardly believe his eyes in the morning!

Day Seventeen –  Basketball Fails

This night we actually attempted to build a duplo castle for Alfie but we ended up not having enough Duplo so gave up on the idea and had to think on our feet again. Instead we made it look as if a few of the toys had been playing basketball with Alfie before he got stuck in the hoop!!! We balanced the other toys on top of each other to make it look as if they had come together as a team to help Alfie down! I wasn’t convinced this would be standing by the morning but to my amazement it was (YES go on mum)!!!

What the kids believe – Alfie got trapped in the basketball hoop because his friends are the police and they trapped him!! Haha not quite what we imagined they’d think of it but it made for some pretty funny entertainment that morning!

Day Eighteen -Bauble Alfie

This night was what nightmares are made of!!! We were both feeling really exhausted so by the time we decided to go to bed we forgot about Alfie! When we remembered we frantically started to pull out whatever toys we could find in order to come up with a genius idea, sadly none of our ideas were good enough so after trying three different things we both started to detest this Elf on the Shelf idea. Finally I saw one of our more worse for wear wire baubles hanging from the tree and decided that we’d somehow squeeze Alfie into the middle of it and add him to the tree disguised as a decoration!

What the kids believe – They didn’t spot Alfie as soon as they usually would in the mornings so we waited until they found him. Eventually they did and they were both in utter shock and disbelief. Our youngest was concerned for him and our eldest wanted to save him! They aren’t sure how he got in there but they knew he needed their help!

Day Nineteen – Elf Loves To Wrap

Alfie was feeling homesick again and since I’d done all of my toy wrapping he had nothing left to wrap… EXCEPT for the kids bedroom door!!! We stuck wrapping paper all over their door frame and hung Alfie from some string looking mischievous.

What the boys believe – They opened their bedroom door very confused, our eldest shouts ‘ALFIE DID THIS!!!!’ and both boys run through the paper ripping it a part!! The boys loved that Alfie did this but told him off for using my wrapping paper!!

Day Twenty – Fly Me To The Moon

The easier Elf on the Shelf ideas are preferable (obviously) so this was the inbetween, took some preparation but was also dead easy!! We decided Alfie would prepare himself to fly to the moon so we wrapped him in tin foil and then made a rocket out of a toilet paper roll and more tin foil!! In a bid to set Alfie up quick tonight I used super glue when sticking on the rockets wings, and glued my fingers together in the process!!! Nothing is ever easy with me!

What the kids believe – Alfie wanted to be a spaceman and fly to the moon in his rocket, but his rocket was too small for him to fit in!!! (Ooops my bad!)

Day Twenty One – Twister

I can’t take credit for this one as I’d seen it done but decided that my eldest would love this since he is obsessed with board games! Husband was out for his Christmas work party so I needed a relatively easy one to set up on my own. I made a little twister mat using different coloured circular stickers, drew a little arrow board for Hulk to hold and got the toys in their twister positions!!

What the kids believe – Alfie and his friends were playing a really fun game together, luckily no one got hurt. Now the boys want a twister!!!

Day Twenty Two – Silly String Wars

We’d searched for silly string a few times before this day and shockingly couldn’t find it anywhere! Luckily whilst out shopping that day we’d stopped by a party shop where we managed to get a hold of some! This night we’d made it look like two teams of toys had a silly string fight and messed up the house!!!

What the kids believe – Alfie and the toys had a funny fight and made the house really really messy!!! As soon as the boys saw all the mess they froze, then ran to the cans and started to spray daddy with it (I have taught them well)!!

Day Twenty Three – M&M Overdose

This day was my birthday and there was so much going on!!! I’d been in Central London and decided before going home we’d pick up some M&Ms since our eldest is crazy for them. This made our night easy because when we retuned home we emptied out one of the pots of M&Ms on the floor and sat Alfie in them making it look like he’d been pigging out all night.

What the kids believe – Alfie was sent M&Ms by Santa but couldn’t finish them all because there were so many!! After the boys finished their breakfast they decided to tuck into the M&Ms, which ended up all over the new rug!!!!

Day Twenty Four – iPads & Apps

This was night two of my birthday celebrations. We didn’t return home until 3am and by that point I was was too exhausted and had far too much Prosseco in my system to have come up with the best idea!! I spotted the iPad, popped on one of the kids favourite apps and sat Alfie down with it!! Simple, but its the best I could do!

What the kids believe – Alfie took their iPad to play games with his friend because he couldn’t sleep with all the excitement of Christmas!! The were very keen to take the iPad away from him though so they could play with it themselves!

Day Twenty Five – Bye Alfie

Our last night of Elf on the Shelf was here!! Slightly gutted but also so relieved!! We’d sat down with the kids this day telling them that Alfie would be going back home with Santa as he needs to make presents for next Christmas. Surprisingly they were okay with that, before going to bed and leaving food for Santa and his reindeers our eldest told Alfie he would miss him but had lots of fun with him and wanted him to come back next year! This night we packed Alfie away but left the kids a chocolate treat for the morning & of course all of their presents!!

What the kids believe – Alfie went back home with Santa, but its okay because he’ll come back!! They got pretty carried away with opening their presents to mourn his going away anyway!!

I really hope you have all enjoyed seeing what our Elf has been up to this year!! Until next year sayonara Alfie!

  1. I’m so sad that I never grew up with elf on the shelf when I was younger but if we ever have kids, this is defo going to be a thing for us! I’m actually so sad that this is over – really enjoyed reading this series, escapist reading the innocence of what the children thought it was! Hope to see more similar ideas on the blog or I’m just gana have to wait until next year haha
